Baby Sleeping Essentials ♡
Before becoming a mom, I thought newborn sleep would be simple. Baby drinks milk, sleeps, wakes up, feeds again, and goes back to sleep. But the newborn phase taught me very quickly that sleep is not always that peaceful.
Some nights my baby woke up crying from gas discomfort. Some nights she startled herself awake the moment I thought she was finally asleep. Sometimes I kept checking if she was breathing. And sometimes the hardest part was not even baby sleep — it was me trying to stay awake during night feeds.
Sleep Essentials Should Solve Real Night Problems
I don’t believe in buying every baby sleep product. But I do believe in choosing products that solve real problems: gas discomfort, cold nights, spit-up, leaks, unsafe loose blankets, anxious monitoring, and exhausting night feeds.
This page is not a random list of baby sleep items. It is a simple guide to what a newborn baby and a tired mother may actually need during those early nights.
When Baby Wakes Up Crying From Gas Pain
Gas pain can make newborn sleep really difficult. Baby may pull legs toward the tummy, grunt, arch the back, cry after feeds, or wake up suddenly even after falling asleep.
As a mother, the first thing I would try is slowing down feeds, burping more often, keeping baby upright after feeding, and gently moving baby’s legs in a bicycle motion. If baby is very uncomfortable, it is always worth asking the pediatrician what is safe to use.
Gas Drops
Helpful to keep at home during the newborn phase if baby often cries from trapped gas or discomfort after feeds.
VIEW GAS DROPSAnti-Colic Bottles
Useful for bottle-fed babies because they may help reduce swallowed air during feeds.
VIEW BOTTLESBurp Cloths
Simple but very useful for night feeds, spit-up, and frequent burping during the early months.
VIEW BURP CLOTHSWhen Baby Startles Awake Again And Again
The newborn startle reflex can be exhausting. Just when baby seems asleep, the arms suddenly fly up and baby wakes again.
In the early weeks, many parents use swaddles. Later, once baby starts showing signs of rolling, sleeping bags become much more practical and safer than loose blankets.
Newborn Swaddle
Can help reduce the startle reflex in the early newborn stage and make baby feel more secure.
VIEW SWADDLESleeping Bag
A safer alternative to loose blankets and helpful for keeping baby warm through the night.
VIEW SLEEPING BAGExtra Sleep Sack
Useful to have a backup ready in case of leaks, spit-up, or night accidents.

When You Are Deciding Between Bassinet, Cot Or Crib
This depends on your space, budget, and how long you want to use the product. A bassinet can feel very convenient during the newborn stage because baby is close to your bed. A bigger cot or crib can be better if you want something that lasts longer.
Bassinet
Best for newborn nights, smaller rooms, and keeping baby close for feeds and quick checks.
VIEW BASSINETCot / Crib
A better long-term option if you want something baby can use beyond the newborn phase.
VIEW COTBaby Nest
Useful for supervised lounging during the day, but not for unsupervised sleep.
VIEW BABY NESTFirm Crib Mattress
A firm, flat mattress is one of the most important parts of a safe baby sleep setup.
VIEW MATTRESSWaterproof Protector
Helps protect the mattress from leaks, spit-up, and night accidents.
VIEW PROTECTORExtra Fitted Sheets
Very useful because baby sheets can get dirty quickly in the early months.
VIEW SHEETSWhen You Keep Checking If Baby Is Breathing
I think many first-time moms understand this feeling. Baby is finally asleep, but instead of sleeping, you keep checking whether baby is breathing.
A baby monitor can make naps and evenings easier, especially when baby sleeps in another room. Some parents also consider smart socks for extra reassurance, especially if they are very anxious.
Baby Monitor
Helpful for watching baby during naps, evenings, or when you need to step away for a moment.
VIEW MONITOROwlet Smart Sock
Can offer extra reassurance for anxious parents, but it should never replace safe sleep or medical advice.
VIEW OWLETNight Light
Helpful for night feeds and diaper changes without switching on bright lights and fully waking baby.
VIEW NIGHT LIGHTWhen Night Feeds Feel Endless
The baby essentials matter, but mother essentials matter too. During night feeds, I realised how hard it can be to stay awake and calm when you are exhausted.
A small night feeding basket for mom can make those hours feel less lonely and more manageable.
Night Snack Basket
Keep easy snacks nearby like oat bars, protein bars, nuts, or crackers for long night feeds.
VIEW SNACK IDEASWater Bottle
Night feeding can make you very thirsty, especially during breastfeeding or pumping phases.
VIEW WATER BOTTLEFeeding Pillow
Can make night feeding more comfortable for your arms, back, and shoulders.
VIEW FEEDING PILLOWLooking back, no product magically fixed baby sleep. What helped most was understanding why my baby was waking and choosing a few products that solved real problems. The best sleep essentials were the ones that made our nights safer, calmer, cleaner, and a little less exhausting.
